SKILLS SQUAD

Coach: Suzanne Harpur

Our skills squad is for swimmers who have Completed Stage 5 of the National Plan for Teaching Swimming (NPTS) and are interested in further developing their skills in a club environment. We work with swimmers to achieve:

  • Exposure to ‘Race Nights’
  • Efficiency of all four strokes and their surrounding skills
  • Preparation for club swimming
  • Developing from 25m events up to 50m events, 100m IM and 200m Freestyle

The average age of a skills squad swimmer is between 7 and 9 years (age as at December 31st). Members enjoy a varied training programme including:

  • Medley based technical development
  • Supplementary training on kick, dolphin kick, sculling and speed
  • Dive starts 5m+, learning tumble, touch turns and relay takeovers

Our goal is to provide a cohesive and disciplined training experience that supports the common goal of enjoying club swimming. We expect our swimmers to:

  • Attend as many sessions as possible to enhance progression
  • Train at the prescribed density and intensity for the group
  • Adhere to the competition / event program
  • Have a willingness to learn and improve
  • Be a great team member
