Swim England's Club of The Year 2022

Richmond Dales ASC is so much more than a club. Our goal is to create an inclusive environment where every swimmer can fulfil their potential, regardless of age or ability.

We have dedicated squads for children and young people, as well as a fantastic Master’s programme and a highly regarded Para Squad. Whether the goal is to swim competitively, keep fit, develop new friendships, or improve confidence, we’re here to support every swimmer’s journey. Our club is your club.

FROM TINY ACORNS...

It all started back in 1976, after representative groups supporting various youth services from across the district identified a need for a swimming club. A steering committee was formed with Mrs Judith Mitchell as Chairperson, and Committee Members including Roy Mitchell, Pat Love, Bob Emmerson, Geoff Wagstaff, Neil Robinson and Jane Kilner. We owe a debt of thanks to this group for laying the foundation of our brilliant club.

The Club was originally called the “Dales Swimming Club”, the name being chosen by Mr Barrington Wells, the first Pool Manager. Club members could participate in any of the many disciplines offered, from learning to swim and stroke improvement through to Life-Saving Society Awards, ASA Personal Survival Awards, Water Polo and Synchronised Swimming. There was also the beginning of a burgeoning competitive swimming section.

Mighty oaks grow…

As the competitive side of the club took off, more focus was placed on this area. As a result, extra training time was gradually established and the standard of swimming began to improve. Our Club Championships were started in 1977 and several friendly galas were arranged with other clubs. It was during this time that the name of the Club was changed to Richmond Dales Amateur Swimming Club (RDASC) to identify our base when swimmers began to take part in Northumberland and Durham Championships and League competitions.

Since then, RDASC has grown and changed. We now have broad provision for children and young people of various abilities, as well as a fantastic Master’s Squad. We are extremely proud of our Para Squad, which is regarded as one of the best of its kind in the country.

BOARD

The board is a group of volunteers whose hard work is vital for the smooth running of the club.  If you have any spare time and would like to help in any way, please see a member of the committee.
